Soon, security checks at major Indian airports to take less time
Travellers at major India metro airports are likely to experience faster passenger security queues early next as the authorities are planning to install the Computed Tomography technology (CTiX machines), which will eliminate the need for passengers to remove electronic items and liquids from their cabin bags for separate X-ray screening.
However, as per a ToI report, potential hold-ups in the security queue could arise due to cabin bags containing prohibited items such as lighters, scissors, blades, and knives. These bags fail to pass X-ray screening and are categorized as “rejected,” necessitating manual checks by CISF security personnel for the removal of prohibited items. At Mumbai airport alone, approximately 7,000 out of the 60,000 cabin bags screened daily fall into this category.
