Sonwar highway sinks near GB Pant Hospital
Several motorists and pedestrians had a narrow escape as a major portion of road caved in on Sonwar highway near GB Pant hospital here today.
Locals said the road caved in due to “engineering flaw” of SMC which had constructed a drain in 2019 as sewage outlet to nearby Jhelum.
Greater Kashmir had reported on February 22 this year about crumbling of the drain on sideways of the road on the highway.
Following the publication of the report, SMC’s City Drainage SE Muhammad Ahsan ul Haq had assured that the damaged portion would be repaired.
However, a day after this reporter witnessed the caved in portion being filled simply by dumping over stones and mud arbitrarily.
