Software upgrade to make travel safer on N-S Metro

Kolkata: Travelling on the North-South Metro will now be safer. The rakes in Kolkata’s Line 1 and India’s oldest Metro will now have the passenger information system (PIS) integrated with the software controlling train operations to prevent doors opening on the wrong side. The BEML-make rakes operating on East-West Metro have this synchronisation facility.

In the next two months, all the Medha rakes and the Chinese-made Dalian rakes used in the Kavi Subhas-Dakshineswar corridor’s fleet will be upgraded with this feature. “An innovative step is being taken to link the PIS with the train control management system (TCMS).
