SC sentences Vijay Mallya to 4 months in prison in a 2017 contempt case

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday sentenced fugitive billionaire Vijay Mallya to four months in prison in a 2017 contempt case. The apex court found him guilty of violating the orders of the court. He was also fined Rs 2,000.

The SC asked Mallya to deposit back $40 million with interest within four weeks. Further, the SC said that failing to do so would lead to attachment of properties.

The apex court said that Mallya did not show any remorse for his conduct and did not appear before it during the sentence hearing.
