SC accepts CEC recommendation on Goa-Tamnar transmission project

The Supreme Court has accepted the Central Empowered Committee’s (CEC) recommendation to utilise the existing 220 KV powerline alignment in Goa instead of cutting down fresh forest cover, to lay a new 400 KV line as part of the Goa-Tamnar transmission project.

A bench of justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai gave its nod to the proposal submitted by the CEC in its April 23, 2021 report.

The CEC told the top court that the project proposed by the Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Limited (GTTPL) would be detrimental to the fragile ecosystem of the Western Ghats.
