Several countries including the UK, France, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, South Korea and Oman have banned the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from their airspace over safety concerns following the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed all the 157 people on board on Sunday.
As a precautionary measure, the UK Civil Aviation Authority has issued instructions to stop any commercial passenger flights from any operator arriving, departing or overflying UK airspace. There are currently five Boeing 737 MAX registered and operational in the UK. A sixth is planned to commence operations later this week, the Authority said in a statement.
Following similar bans worldwide, Boeing shares fell 5.1 per cent to $379.44 in early trading on Tuesday, adding to a 5 per cent decline on Monday.
