Revamp of airport slot usage norms paused amid monopoly worries

Concerns over a possible monopoly situation have led the government to put on hold new guidelines stipulating that airlines be checked roughly every six months for usage of airport slots – which they will lose if not used at the prescribed threshold – against the current practice of an annual review, officials said. These slots are prized assets granted by the airport operator, allowing an airline to take off and land.
