Report power theft, get rewarded

In a bid to curb theft of electricity, the Central Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha (Cesu) has decided to reward the people who would report such cases to the power distribution company.

Cesu Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arun Bothra said that a 10 per cent of the theft penalty amount would be given to the informer of a case. And the identities of the informers would be concealed, he said.

Bothra further informed that Self-Help Group (SHG) members would be allowed to collect electricity bills soon. Filing of complaints by customers on social media platforms would be encouraged, he added.

Notably, the Cesu is the largest of the four power discoms in the State having under its jurisdiction cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
