Railways freeze gauge conversion project

Ahmedabad: The Indian Railways has announced that it will not proceed with the meter gauge conversion project along the Junagadh-Visavadar stretch until it receives approvals from the State Board for Wildlife (SBWL) and the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL).

“The Railways aim to ensure transparency. As the new guidelines necessitate permission from both SBWL and NBWL, the project along the Junagadh-Visavadar stretch, for which a tender was issued in July, has been halted,” stated senior railway officials.
