Punjab: Zero bill for 600 bimonthly units, to add subsidy burden of Rs 7,200 crore
PATIALA: After the state government issued a circular for 300 free units of electricity every month to domestic consumers, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) confirmed on Saturday that they will indeed get a ‘zero bill’ for using up to 600 units in the two-month cycle. This means a subsidy load of Rs 7,200 crore.
If they don’t cross this limit, they will pay no energy charges, fixed charges, meter rent, and government taxes. The concession applies from July 1. A PSPCL official said that: “The zero-bill policy is for everybody, from the poor to the rich.” In case the bimonthly consumption exceeds 600 units, the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, Non-SC/BC poor people, and Punjab’s freedom fighters and their successors (up to grandchildren)
