Proposed power tariff hike opposed
The Samajwadi Party (SP) held a demonstration before the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) office here on Saturday opposing the proposed power tariff hike for the financial year 2022-23.
The party demanded 300 units of free electricity to all BPL families and a white paper on the annual income and expenditure of power discoms in the State.
Party State president Rabi Behera said Odisha was the first State in the country to go for power sector reform with the help of World Bank way back in 1994-95.
The Government assured the consumers then to provide uninterrupted quality power to the common consumers at cheaper rates. But after 27 years of power sector reforms neither power is cheap nor it is qualitative in the State, Behera alleged.
