Private power generating companies tell Centre they don’t have funds to import coal

Private power generating companies have told the government they don’t have money to buy imported coal since they haven’t received payments from state-owned power retailers.

The government is relying on utilities importing coal to build stocks ahead of the rainy season to avert a power crisis. Coal stocks on May 3 were at 22 million tonnes, enough to last nine days.
