Private firms keen on shale gas exploration, demand concessions
New Delhi: Private companies planning to explore shale gas in their current coal bed methane (CBM) blocks have urged the government to allow an extended contract term of 35 years and cut state’s share in the income from such fields.
Great Eastern Energy Corporation (GEECL) and Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production (EOGPL) have been keen on exploiting shale resources in their respective CBM fields in West Bengal after a policy change in 2018 permitted contractors to explore all forms of unconventional hydrocarbons in their existing contract areas.
