Private CNG cars in MMR add up to 8% of all cars
MUMBAI: Private cars running on compressed natural gas (CNG) have touched the 3-lakh mark in Mumbai region. This is nearly 8% of the private car population, latest statistics have revealed.
An average of 75 brand new CNG private cars hit city roads daily in 2018-19, which was a good trend, Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) officials said. The officials said more people were opting for environment-friendly cars across Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR).
However, the response to CNG two-wheelers has been poor. In three years, only 140 CNG scooters were purchased by Mumbaikars. In fact, people were keener on procuring electric scooters. The government has been incentivising purchase of e-vehicles by announcing a reduction in goods and services tax and offering tax deductions on interest on loans.
