Power plants report record high coal stocks in August
Power plants had record high coal at the end of August, the latest available data shows, suggesting that the country may not see a post-monsoon power crisis like the last year.
Power companies told ET there was adequate coal stocks at thermal stations monitored by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) though there is some drop in stocks over the last 20 days. Authorities are closely watching the situation as the depletion rate is around 2 lakh tonnes per day in the past week on rising power demand as the monsoon retreated.
