Power ministry prepares for the summer

NEW DELHI: The power ministry has worked out a multi-pronged approach to prepare for the summer, including extending the mandate for imported coal-based units to run at full capacity till September and exploring the possibility of using surplus power from captive plants, according to a statement released Tuesday.

The current direction for plants to run at maximum capacity, under Section 11 of The Electricity Act, 2003, ends in June.
