Power engineers stage protest in Delhi against privatisation
NEW DELHI: Power sector engineers from different states on Wednesday held a demonstration at the Capital’s Jantar Mantar against privatisation and threatened a countrywide strike if the Centre unilaterally decides to implement such proposals in the Electricity (Amendment) Bill.
The engineers also sought old pension scheme and regularisation of all outsourced employees deployed in various state utilities.
The left and AAP as well as Sanyukta Kisan Morcha — the apex body of farmers’ association that led the agitation against the farm laws — extended their support to the agitating engineers. Left MPs Elamaram Kareem, R Krishnaiyya, D Raja and Hannan Molla of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha and Gaurav Maheshwari of the AAP addressed the agitating power workers.
