Power engineers oppose FM’s move to privatise power discoms in UTs

A day after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam laid out the contours of privatisation of power distribution companies (discoms), the

All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) strongly opposed the central government’s proposal amid the Covid-19 crisis.

AIPEF chairman Shailendra Dubey charged the Centre with “misleading” the common consumers and farmers on the issue of the privatisation of electricity distribution.

He said that if the proposal was not withdrawn, an estimated 1.5 million power employees across the country, under the aegis of AIPEF, “will have no option except to resort to agitation.”
