Power distribution companies will have to pay users for power cuts: RK Singh

NEW DELHI: Soon all power distribution companies (discoms) in the country will have to compensate consumers for unscheduled power cuts used by cash-strapped state utilities to artificially reduce demand and avoid buying additional electricity.

“Discoms have to pay penalty for power cuts not caused by technical faults or natural disasters. It (compensation) should be credited into their accounts,” power minister R K Singh told TOI, adding the details are being worked out.
