Post-pandemic demand for diesel lags, petrol continues to rise

Diesel sales stayed 10% below the pre-pandemic level in August while petrol grew 4% as the two key transportation fuels took different recovery paths following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

The demand for diesel as well as petrol grew 16% and 14%, respectively, year-on-year in August as the economic activity increased and more people went to work, as per the state oil companies’ preliminary sales data.
