PM Modi launches Ujjwala 2nd phase, says migrants won’t need address proof

LAUNCHING THE second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), or Ujjwala 2.0, in Uttar Pradesh, where Assembly elections are scheduled early next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that migrant workers will be able to get a free gas connection on the basis of a “self-declaration”, without being required to submit additional documents as proof of address.

Addressing an event, via video conference, in Mahoba (Bundelkhand) where free connections were provided to some beneficiaries, Modi said migrant workers, including from Uttar Pradesh, find it difficult to submit address proof when they go to work in other states. Under Ujjwala 2.0, maximum benefit will be given to such families as they will only have to submit a “self-declaration”, he said.
