Pitch to Tesla, India readies the red carpet for global majors with new EV policy

India on Friday offered concessional tariffs to global electric vehicle (EV) players – like Elon Musk led Tesla – for setting up shop in the country. The Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India aims to attract investments in the country for making EVs. Contours of the policy are in line with a persistent demand from Tesla to lower India’s 70% import duty on cars before the company sets up a production facility here.
