Piaggio betting big on CNG segment

CHENNAI: Two and three wheeler major Piaggio is betting big on the CNG segment particularly for its commercial vehicle range. The company, which launched the Ape HT range in cargo and passenger variants in petrol and CNG, is looking to ride on the 30% year on year increase in CNG parks particularly with the government targeting 10,000 CNG bunks by 2025.

Diego Graffi, CMD, Piaggio India, said, “The price of CNG is 50% that of petrol so it is very cost effective and we are preparing relevant products. Currently CNG products comprise 25-30% of our total sales and in coming years this will go up to 50%. Right now, with this product, we are offering our entire CV with CNG variants,” he added.
