PGCIL receives ₹13,614-crore revised claim from DoT

MUMBAI: The Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked the company to pay ₹13,613.6 crore as fee for its national long distance license for the period between FY07 and FY10, the state-run company informed the bourses on Thursday.

In January, PGCIL filed an application before the Supreme Court against DoT’s demand of around ₹22,000 crore in past dues, citing that revenue from telecom business accounts for only 2% of its turnover. In October, the apex court had said that non-telecom revenues of telecom firms such as Bharti AirtelNSE 0.02 % and Vodafone IdeaNSE 11.63 % should be included for considering payments of government dues, following which DoT sought additional license fee from non-telecom firms like PGCIL and even GAIL.
