Petrol, diesel prices cut for 4th straight day

Oil marketing companies have reduced prices of petrol and diesel for fourth straight day, though by a meagre nine paise.

Petrol now costs Rs 78.20 in Delhi while in Mumbai it costs Rs 86.01 per liter. In Kolkata and Chennai, it costs Rs 80.84 and Rs 81.19 per liter respectively.

Prices for petrol and diesel were cut by 6 paise and 5 paise per litre respectively on Friday. Earlier fuel prices were cut by 7 paise and 5 paise per litre respectively on Thursday and 1 paise each on Wednesday.

Prices vary from state-to-state depending on local sales tax or VAT. Delhi has the cheapest price among all metros and most state capitals.

Kerala is the only state so far to reduce sales tax on both petrol and diesel by Rs 1.

In the 16 consecutive increases since May 14, petrol price was hiked by Rs 3.8 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.38.
