Paradigm shift in power sector: Economic Survey

Power sector in India has witnessed a paradigm shift over the years due to efforts of government to foster investment in the sector, the Economic Survey said on Monday. The survey commended the government’s universal electrification drive and increase in power generation and transmission capacities.

The survey did not comment on stressed power assets, financial health of ailing distribution utilities, decline in power demand and issues such as states reneging renewable energy contracts.

India improved its ranking in the Energy Transition Index published by World Economic Forum (76th position), the survey noted.
