Over 40 NHAI projects behind schedule
Chennai: The Union government has taken up road work worth an estimated 43,935 crore in Tamil Nadu. But, more than 40 out of the 114 projects under implementation — from widening of roads to building grade separators — are behind schedule. The details were provided by Nitin Gadkari, the union minister for road transport and highways, while replying to DMK MP S R Parthiban in Lok Sabha.
The delay, Gadkari said, was due to non-granting of permission for extraction of burrow earth, the pandemic, delay in land acquisition by the government, delay in forest and environmental clearances, shifting of utility services, and slow progress of work by the contractors or concessionaires.
