Ola Electric likely to recall faulty batches of EVs

NEW DELHI: Ola Electric is likely to voluntarily recall faulty batches of electric vehicles (EVs) after two other players — Okinawa and Pure EV — recently took the same step amid increasing cases of EVs going up in flames and also claiming lives.
The voluntary recalls by manufacturers have increased after the government threatened them with “heavy penalties” if they failed to take immediate remedial action, including calling back faulty models. On Saturday, another fire in an EV — Corbett 14 manufactured by Boom Motors — was reported from Andhra Pradesh which left one dead.
Ola Electric founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal on Saturday said that his company may recall a few batches of electric scooters depending on the recommendations given by the investigating agencies ascertaining the cause behind the EV fires, a business TV channel reported. He said world-class agencies have been hired to find out why the Ola electric scooter caught fire.
