Nuclear emergency preparedness training programme begins at Kalpakkam

CHENNAI: A training programme for district officials was inaugurated at the Kalpakkam centre of the Department of Atomic Energy on Tuesday ahead of the offsite emergency exercise on November 11.
DAE Kalpakkam centre has many units functioning at including Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (under construction), BARC facilities among others. As per regulatory requirements, an offsite emergency exercise should be conducted at this centre once in two years as part of its emergency preparedness plan.
A training programme is organized for district officials to familiarize them with nuclear emergency preparedness arrangements as part of this exercise.
