NTPC tops FY21 output in Feb as economy gathers steam

NEW DELHI: India’s largest power producer NTPC set to notch up record output in the current fiscal on the back of robust growth in electricity demand, indicating a sustained economic recovery.
The state-run company pumped out nearly 315 BU (billion units) on Friday, topping the 314 BU the company produced in the entire 2020-21 financial year. Since there is still more than a month to go till the end of this fiscal, the company looks set to notch up a record year of production.
The current level of output also marks a 16% increase over 270 BU the company generated in the corresponding period, or April 1, 2020 to February 2018, 2021, of the previous financial year.
