No scam in power bill calculation, Tamil Nadu minister says

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu power minister P Thangamani on Monday denied the allegation that electricity bills are calculated wrongly. He said power bills were calculated properly and there was no scam.
In a statement, the minister said the Madras high court had dismissed a case stating that the calculation of bills was correct.
Opposition DMK will stage protests against the ‘high’ power bills on Tuesday.
“DMK president M K Stalin is stating that people are suffering due to high power bills. We could not take reading from residences due to the lockdown. Readings were taken once there was relief from the lockdown,” said Thangamani.
He said the four months were divided into two billing cycles and the total bill was calculated. If the consumer paid their previous bill, that amount was deducted from the total bill amount.
