‘No charge on online power bill payment in UP’
LUCKNOW: In a bid to ensure timely payment of electricity bills during lockdown, CM Yogi Adityanth on Thursday directed Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to bear the charge levied by banks on online payment of electricity bills.
The CM issued the directions in a review meeting to assess the problems faced by the people during lockdown.
Until now, banks levy transaction charge from consumers on online payment of electricity bills through debit or credit cards. This charge would now be borne by UPPCL. The arrangement will be put in place for April, a state government spokesperson said. Sources said this is being done to restrict people from visiting sub-stations to pay the bills and instead make online payment during the three-week nationwide lockdown.
