NLC coal production up, targets 6 million tonne this year

NEW DELHI: There’s some good news on coal production. NLC Ltd (formerly known as Nyeveli Lignite Corporation) has ramped up production from Talabira-II and III open cast mines in Odisha to two million tonnes till date in the first year of operation, a move that will help ease the current fuel crunch at power stations.

The company has also raised its annual production target for the current year from four million tonnes earlier to six million tonnes and is making efforts to reach 10 million tonnes. In an ambitious move, the miner is aiming to reach 20 million tonne production next year.

State-run NTPC commenced coal offtake from Talabira for Lara and Darlipalli units, which will allow the country’s largest power generator to raise generation.
