National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Monday said it has constructed 3,979 km of national highways in the financial year 2019-20, against the target of building 4,500 km highways that was set in the beginning of the year.
In the financial year 2018-19, NHAI built 3,380 km of national highways.
“With the increased pace of highway development, NHAI has achieved construction of 3,979 of national highways in FY 2019-20 and is committed to provide a smooth ride on national highways in the country,” an official statement said.
The target for the current financial year 2020-21 is yet to be ascertained due to the ongoing 21-day nationwide lockdown that led to the suspension of construction activities. The lockdown was imposed, beginning March 25 to contain the spread of covid-19.
