NGT orders NLC to pay Rs 5 crore as interim compensation

Chennai: The National Green Tribunal has ordered Neyveli Lignite Corporation to set aside Rs 5 crore as interim compensation to the victims of a boiler blast last week that has so far claimed the lives of 13 people and injured 10 others.

The thermal power plant has been directed to deposit the amount with the District Magistrate of Cuddalore district, where the unit is based, within two weeks, NGT said in the order on Wednesday, which was uploaded on its website late on Thursday.
