Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation to prepare migration strategy before rolling out new AC local trains

MUMBAI: Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation will prepare a “migration strategy” before it introduces additional AC local trains once the new rakes get added to the existing fleet under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) after 2 years. MRVC plans to procure 191 AC rakes under MUTP for which tender documents have been prepared.
A senior official said, “Most of these services will be introduced by replacing existing non-AC trains even though additional path will be created, which will allow us to run more trains after quadrupling as well as laying the fifth and sixth lines on both Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR).”
MRVC has decided to appoint a consultant to prepare the migration strategy. The official said, “We have already floated tenders for it and the study should get completed within six months after the consultant’s appointment in November. The consultant will study the existing time-table and recommend the path on which services can be added.”
