Mumbai-Pune Expressway crash barrier junctions, their height cause concern

NAVI MUMBAI: Motorists and activists have raised safety concerns over the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) not installing metal crash barriers on the median and sides of the entire Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Instead, wire crash barriers have been put up in some stretches. This lack of safety at the junction of wire and metal crash barriers was exposed by Sunday’s dramatic mishap resulting in a metal barrier piercing through the windscreen and rear window of the car of a Chunabhatti resident. Highway safety patrol has also expressed concern over such arrangements at some locations.
