Mumbai: No EV charging at stacked, automated parking in socs

MUMBAI: Electric vehicle charging points will not be permitted in automated mechanised car parking system, stacked car parking or car parking towers, according to new guidelines issued by Mumbai fire brigade.

EV charging stations can be permitted in parking areas in the first basement with ramps, ground floor and first podium level/first level car parking floor only, from a fire risk point of view. According to the guidelines, the EV charging premises have to be kept “well ventilated”.

These guidelines are in addition to the SOP recently issued by the state government on EV charging installations. They come close on the heels of a fire incident where an e-scooter battery kept on charging in a first-floor home of a two-storey building in Mazgaon, Byculla, led to a major fire.
