Mumbai: Girder work for Gokhale bridge begins; BMC plans partial opening on Diwali

MUMBAI: Two weeks following the arrival of the first batch of steel at Gokhale Bridge’s under-construction site in Andheri, work on erecting girders with the steel will begin on Saturday. The launch of the first girder is expected in October and the second in November.

BMC officials said work is on track to partially open the crucial east-west connector by Diwali.

– Push method: Each girder will be assembled on the worksite and then pushed forward for assembly

– Specialised crane: A special crane has been brought. It can bear a weight of 50 tons and has 360-degree navigability
