Mumbai CNG shutdown cripples transport: Over 3 lakh autos, taxis, buses hit as supply stops; 486 stations closed after pipeline damage

MUMBAI: Road transport on the first day of the workweek could be crippled. Operations at all 486 CNG refuelling stations in MMR came to a sudden halt on Sunday afternoon after the main gas pipeline at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers’ Chembur plant was damaged and the supply to Mahanagar Gas Ltd’s (MGL) station in Wadala disconnected.

Autos, taxis, buses and aggregator cabs like Uber and Ola were hit, as were over 5 lakh private cars that run on CNG. Sources said the supply could remain suspended till Monday morning as repair and restoration work could take time.
