Mumbai: Central Railway to install flood lights on point track for better upkeep

MUMBAI: Central Railway has decided to install flood lights on tracks where Points( where trains interchange tracks) are located to ensure better maintenance practice. This idea has been inspired from Metro network where maintenance is carried out at night when train operations are suspended.
A senior CR official said, “We have selected CSMT yard and stretch between Byculla and Dadar to implement this on pilot project basis.” In the suburban system, around 70 percent of disruptions are because of point failures. Point failures occur because of water logging, rail fracture, or muck coming in contact with the system. When this happens, trains cannot be diverted from one track to another. The points are also clamped to avoid derailments.
