Mumbai: Capital class! Rajdhani Express completes golden run on May 17
MUMBAI: Next Tuesday will be another special day in the city’s railway annals: the Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express—India’s premier passenger train—will complete a golden run. Exactly 50 years ago on May 17, 1972, the train had made its inaugural journey from the then Bombay Central to the national capital.
The service started just three years after the first Rajdhani—India’s first fully air-conditioned train—began between New Delhi and Howrah (Kolkata). Before it, Mumbai had other trains like Frontier Mail and Paschim Express to Delhi, but none had New Delhi as the terminating station.
