MUMBAI: A preliminary investigation into a major security breach at the Mumbai airport last week has shown that the CISF team took about 10 minutes to reach the spot after it received an alarm from an electronic warning system that looks out for encroachers.
A mentally unstable man scaled the perimeter wall of the airport and strolled unstopped onto a taxiway where he walked under the belly of an aircraft awaiting its turn to enter the runway for departure on August 22.
“When the man scaled the wall and jumped into the airport premises, the electronic Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) set off an alarm, which alerted the CISF,” said a top official of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). “The CISF team took 10 minutes to reach the spot,” he said, adding that this is only a preliminary finding and the final report to be released in a month or two will reveal the complete picture.
