Mumbai: 500 e-taxis & 5,000 e-scooters to complement BEST bus services

MUMBAI: BEST announced on Friday that it will get 500 electric taxis and 5,000 electric scooters for public use by June and integrate these with its bus service for seamless transition from one mode of transport to another.

There will also be water taxis with affordable fares from the eastern waterfront to be run by the transport undertaking next year, said BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra. “As far as our buses are concerned, we are targeting a ridership of 45 lakh, with the introduction of 2,100 single-decker buses and 900 e-double-deckers by the next financial year,” he said.

Chandra, who made the announcements at the BEST HQ in Colaba, said congested roads had necessitated alternative transport through the sea route to far-flung areas. “In the past, BEST was known for operating ferry operations between Manori and Marve beach and so, we are not new in this field,” he said.
