Maha electricity board’s workers call off strike after Govt’s intervention

Hours after they went on a 72-hour agitation to protest against the alleged privatisation of three firms, nearly 1.25 lakh employees and contractor workers of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board’s three companies on Wednesday afternoon withdrew their agitation following the state government’s intervention.

On a day when the Maharashtra Congress alleged that the Eknath Shinde-Fadnavis government was planning to hand over the “profit-making” state-run electricity supply utility” Mahavitran” to private company, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held talks with the leaders of 32 workers’ unions and assured them that the state government did not intend to privatise the three power state power undertakings.
