With a view to provide clean cooking fuel to BPL (Below Poverty Line) households in the country, the government had launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Under PMUY, 5 crore new LPG connections to BPL households, identified through Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data 2011, will be released by 2018-19. Connections are released in the name of adult women of the BPL households, who do not have LPG connection in the family.
