Lower VAT on jet fuel; expedite airport expansion: Scindia to states
NEW DELHI: Union aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has asked states to lower VAT on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) — a request made by all his predecessors in last 15 years now. Jet fuel price for domestic flights is among the most expensive globally due to two factors — high base price and then steep tax rates on that.
The struggling-to-survive airline industry hopes that with Hardeep Singh Puri — who handled aviation just before Scindia — now Union petroleum minister, ATF prices should finally get rationalised. And if states lower VAT, jet fuel prices for domestic flights in India could get cheaper.
