LED lights interfere with cop wireless signals
Kolkata: The millions of low emission deficiency (LED) lights used to decorate Puja pandals across Kolkata and the districts played havoc with police wireless communication. A source in the Kolkata Police said it often got difficult for cops on the street to get in touch with control rooms or even remain in touch with each other. Had an emergency occurred, there could have been a major crisis with communications getting disrupted.
LED lights are known to create disruptions in very high frequency (VHF) signals that the police use for wireless communication. According to an expert, LED lights have voltage regulators that emit a noise that cause the disturbance. In the worst case scenario, no communication would be possible. In other times, there would be intermittent squawks and screeches during a conversation.
“This also happens when generators are on but few generators were used during Pujas. In comparison, there were LED lights everywhere, near pandals as well as on the streets. Initially, we didn’t know what was causing the interruption.
