Kyrgyzstan raises electricity tariff for crypto miners to stabilise energy sector
NEW DELHI: With recent revision of policy, Kyrgyz authorities have increased power tariffs in the country for crypto mining by 12.5 per cent. It is understood that this is owing to the massive energy consumption in the coin mining process.
The official announcement on the Medium Term Tariff Policy for Electricity (2021-2025) was published on September 30 and approved by the cabinet of ministers, Bitcoin.com reports.
The authorities in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek, in a recent drive, have updated electricity tariffs for different groups of consumers according to their needs.
Crypto mining activities have been listed along with gold mining and the alcoholic beverages manufacturing industry, as major power consumers.
