Kolkata: Flood-prone stretch on EM Bypass to get drainage line

Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has decided to set up a drainage network to the west of Eastern Metropolitan Bypass for the discharge of storm water that has been inundating the stretch between Dhapa and Metropolitan Housing junction.

KMDA officials said a drainage outlet line had existed earlier but had been dismantled due to the construction of the Garia-Airport Metro line. The deadline for the Rs 17 lakh project is two months from commencement of work.

“The new drainage pipeline will be installed along 200-metre stretch between Metropolitan Housing Society and Metropolitan Canal Bank side and again from the Canal Bank side to Dhapa crossing on the western flank.
